Sydney Urbine joined the University of Pittsburgh athletic department in November 2025 as an academic counselor in Academic Support Services for Student-Athletes. In this role, she provides academic guidance to student-athletes, helping them achieve academic and career goals while maintaining NCAA eligibility and progress toward graduation for the Pitt football and track and field programs.
Since arriving at Pitt as a student-athlete, Urbine competed on the Panthers’ track and cross country teams, contributing to one of the most academically and athletically accomplished cross country squads in program history. She was recognized as part of the Pitt Athletics Top Overall Female Academic Team and earned distinction for her leadership and service. Urbine was active in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Panther Fellowship, and served as a speaker at the Panther Leadership Conference as well as a spokesperson for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. She also led Pitt Athletics’ community service leaderboard, ranking among the top three individual contributors across all sports.
After completing her collegiate career, Urbine competed in the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in 2024, continuing her passion for distance running and competitive athletics.
Before assuming her current role, Urbine gained experience within Pitt Athletics through several positions, including internships with Pitt Life Skills and Pitt Script for Life, and as a peer academic coach in Academic Support Services for Student-Athletes. Most recently, she served as a compliance and Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) coordinator, collaborating with coaches, staff and administrators to support NCAA compliance operations and ensure adherence to institutional, conference and NCAA regulations.
Urbine earned a Master of Education in higher education from the University of Pittsburgh in 2024. During her graduate studies, she received the George I. Carson Graduate Fellowship Award in recognition of her academic excellence and leadership within the School of Education. As a student-athlete, she was a member of the Pitt Athletics Top Overall Female Academic Team and was inducted into several honor societies, including the National College Athlete Honor Society, the International Honor Society in Education, the National Honor Society of Academic Excellence, and the National Honor Society for Scholarship, Leadership and Fellowship. She is also a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
Urbine resides in Pittsburgh. She is the daughter of Shawn and Sue Urbine and has two siblings, Shane and Shelby.
