Scott Swegan joined Pitt Athletics as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Chief Communications Officer in September 2025.
He oversees Pitt’s Strategic Communications, Creative and Broadcast units and serves as the athletic department’s spokesperson.
Swegan came to Pitt after serving as Western Kentucky University’s senior associate athletic director for communications and marketing since June 2023. At WKU, he supervised athletic communications/media relations, marketing and promotions, creative services and broadcast/production. He developed the overall brand strategy for WKU Athletics and managed partnerships with Learfield and CLC. He also served as the men’s basketball sport administrator and the university’s licensing director.
Before WKU, Swegan was director of communications at Stanford (2019-23), where he led communications for football, men’s golf and women’s golf. He also contributed to strategy and management for the Cardinal’s communications department.
From 2016-19, he worked at the University of Texas as an assistant director of media relations. He was the secondary contact for football and led communications for track and field, cross country and the historic Texas Relays.
Swegan began his career at his alma mater, Bowling Green State University, in 2014 as primary football communications contact. He helped the staff earn a 2014 Football Writers Association of America Super 11 Award and developed communication plans for three consecutive Mid-American Conference championship games and four straight bowl appearances.
A native of Bowling Green, Ohio, Swegan has promoted multiple NCAA golf national champions, three National Football Foundation award winners, eight bowl teams, five conference football championship games, 12 football academic All-Americans, three Pac-12 women’s golfers of the year and four consecutive McCormack Medal winners, awarded to the world’s top women’s amateur golfer.
He was named to the College Sports Communicators’ 30 Under 30 list in November 2022. Swegan graduated from BGSU in 2014 with a degree in sport management and a minor in entrepreneurship.
He and his wife, Paris, have two daughters, Kennedy and Kamille.
