Scott Swegan joined Pitt Athletics in September 2025 as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Chief Communications Officer. He oversees the department's communications, content strategy and broadcast units and serves as Pitt Athletics' primary spokesperson.
Swegan arrived at Pitt after three years at Western Kentucky University, where he served as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Marketing beginning in June 2023. At WKU he supervised athletic communications, media relations, marketing and promotions, creative services and broadcast production. He developed the overall brand strategy for WKU Athletics and managed partnerships with Learfield and CLC. He also served as the men’s basketball sport administrator and the university’s licensing director.
Before WKU, Swegan spent four years as Director of Communications at Stanford (2019-23), leading communications for football, men's golf and women's golf while contributing to broader strategy and management across the athletic communications department.
From 2016 to 2019, Swegan worked at the University of Texas as an Assistant Director of Media Relations, serving as secondary contact for football and primary contact for track and field, cross country and the Texas Relays.
He began his career in 2014 at his alma mater, Bowling Green State University, as the primary football communications contact. During his tenure the staff earned a 2014 Football Writers Association of America Super 11 Award, and he built communication plans around three straight Mid-American Conference championship games and four consecutive bowl appearances.
Across his career, Swegan has promoted multiple NCAA golf national champions, three National Football Foundation award winners, eight bowl teams, five conference football championship games, 12 football Academic All-Americans, three Pac-12 women's golfers of the year and four straight McCormack Medal winners, given annually to the world's top women's amateur golfer.
A native of Bowling Green, Ohio, Swegan was named to the College Sports Communicators' 30 Under 30 list in November 2022. He graduated from Bowling Green State in 2014 with a degree in sport management and a minor in entrepreneurship.
Swegan and his wife, Paris, have two daughters, Kennedy and Kamille.
