Richard Turnquist was named Assistant Athletic Director, Data and Analytics in August 2022. In his role, he is responsible for overseeing and managing the Panthers Data and Analytics program, an in-house, cross-campus unit supporting data and analytics efforts on, and off, the field. Turnquist designed and developed the program’s framework and works in conjunction with Athletic Department and Pitt IT leadership to align business needs and strategies with analytical tools, resources, and initiatives.
After graduating from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI with a Master’s in Sports Management in 2016, Turnquist joined the University of Pittsburgh athletic department as a Coordinator of Financial Reporting. In October 2018, Turnquist became the Director of Business Services in Athletics, holding the position for two years. In October 2020, Turnquist became the Director of Analytics, Athletics and began building out the Athletics Departments analytics efforts.
Originally Wisconsin natives, Richard and his wife, Stephanie (Pitt MHA 2019), have enjoyed the welcoming Pitt community and all the University has to offer.
Beyond the Bio
Favorite sports moment at Pitt?
Pitt over Penn State at Heinz Field in the 2016 football season. Coming from a small NAIA school the atmosphere was unlike anything I had experienced.
What do you love most about working in athletics?
I love the pace of the industry and the evolving challenges it offers.
What do you love most about the University of Pittsburgh?
The University’s community. People at the University are talented, innovative, and ambitious but also welcoming and gracious.
