A 2021 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Media, Regan Check began her time with Pitt’s athletic department as a student worker in 2019. After graduating, Check continued to freelance on Pitt broadcasts as an associate director, graphics operator, and audio. Before becoming a full-time member of the staff, Check worked as a freelancer for AT&T Sportsnet starting in 2020 operating as a stage manager, social media, audio 2, and utility. Check also worked as a sports producer at local news station, CBS News Pittsburgh KDKA-TV.
Check and the Pitt Studios staff produce Pitt sporting events that air on ACC Network and ACC Network Extra as well as the ESPN App. Pitt Studios is responsible for the live productions of home games for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, wrestling, gymnastics, and lacrosse. In preparation for these events, Check spends time organizing crews, researching teams, and building graphics. Events for both production platforms consist of an ESPN-branded graphics package, replay, announcers, and a crew of 25-30 event workers. She also oversees the development of ACC Network production and operations interns during the academic year, along with numerous young professionals and volunteer student workers.
Check’s love for broadcasting started at a young age. Both of her parents worked in broadcasting as a radio engineer and producer. Check began learning how to be a radio engineer at 16 years old.
Check grew up in Plum Borough, PA and attended Plum Senior High School.
Beyond the Bio
What’s your favorite thing to do in the city of Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh has an incredible energy. I don’t stray too far from my work because I love all Pittsburgh sports teams and try to attend every event that I am not already working. I truly love the atmosphere that surrounds sports.
What do you love most about working in athletics?
Every game there is a different story to tell and new things to learn. You get to watch athletes hit new milestones and sometimes even witness historical plays. There’s nothing like getting to witness those moments live and in-person.
Hobbies outside of work?
I attend adult gymnastic classes and I love to spend time with my dog.
