Liam Sporrer joined the Pitt Department of Athletics Broadcast and Video Production team as the Director of Broadcast Engineering in October 2017 to manage rapidly expanding technical needs for both the ACC Network and in-venue production capabilities.
Sporrer provides consultation and system support for all Pitt Studios technical operations and initiatives. He manages the day-to-day demands of Pitt Studios technology and equipment used to execute live broadcasts for both the ACC Network and for video boards in all Pitt Athletics facilities. Sporrer manages long-term planning of system and facility expansion, and upgrades, supporting athletics goals for constant improvement of event coverage.
In addition, Sporrer is charged with the oversight and on-site training of NEP Group’s apprentice engineers who assist Pitt Studios with ACC Network events, supporting a shared training program for prospective future Television Engineers.
Sporrer was instrumental in the design and completion of the ambitious Pitt Studios project, a $12 million system that was completed in October of 2018 to provide unprecedented levels of flexibility and bandwidth for Pitt Athletics event coverage. Sporrer assisted in every step of the process from conception to final integration, developing and guiding the technology required for an expansion to three network level production control rooms, and fiber connectivity to six remote venues.
Sporrer also provides support to the ongoing development of a University wide broadcast curriculum in conjunction with the Film Studies Department.
Before arriving at Pitt, Sporrer worked for Texolve Digital Inc., a Pittsburgh based Broadcast Engineering and Design Firm. He provided on-site system support for In Arena presentation for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins, as well as the University of Pittsburgh. He also designed broadcast infrastructure and systems for a wide range of users and completed installation support for mobile and fixed location production facilities for Fox Sports.
An Honors College graduate of Point Park University in 2014, Sporrer earned a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast and Video Production as well as Multimedia Design. Originally from West View, Pa., he currently resides in Mt. Washington.
