Ed Whited joined the University of Pittsburgh Athletic Department in September of 2016 as a Director of Equipment Services. Whited oversees the department’s Athletic Equipment Services division (save football).
Prior to arriving at Pitt, Whited served as the Director of Athletic Facilities and Events, at California University of Pennsylvania from 2001. Other professional stops for Whited were:
1993-2001 Eastern Michigan University. Director for Athletic Equipment
1990-1993 University of Michigan. Assistant Equipment Manager
1989-1990 Southeast Missouri State University. Athletic Equipment Specialist
A 1988 graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, Whited worked as a Student Equipment Manager for five years while at KSU. Whited also received his Master of Science degree in Sports Management from California University of PA, in 2008.
Whited hopes to provide exceptional services and support for all Pitt Student Athletes, coaches, and staff on a continuous basis. He strives to provide the Pitt intercollegiate community with the safest and best-looking athletic equipment available.
A Lockport, N.Y., native, Whited has a son, Levi, and a daughter, Kinlee who both reside in SW PA.
Beyond the Bio
Favorite thing to do in the city of Pittsburgh?
Bike riding throughout the city. Exploring and going to all the athletic events.
Favorite sports moment at Pitt?
Men’s basketball defeating visiting Virginia (2017), in overtime!
What do you love most about working in athletics?
Has always been the daily interactions with student-athletes, coaches and co-workers! Sports help bind us together.
Hobbies outside of work?
Kayaking!!!
