Brent Davis, Tight Ends
Former Virginia Tech tight ends coach Brent Davis is in his first year at Pitt in 2026, serving in the same capacity.
Prior to being Tech’s tight ends coach in 2025, he was the Hokies’ co-offensive line coach in 2024, helping them average 178 rushing yards per game. Davis served as an offensive analyst in 2023, when Tech ranked 22nd nationally in rushing offense, averaging 189.8 yards per contest. That season included a new school record for rushing yards in a bowl game with 362 yards in a 41–20 win over Tulane in the Military Bowl.
Davis spent nine seasons as the offensive coordinator at Army, where the Black Knights were consistently among the nation’s rushing leaders.
In seven of those nine years, Army produced a top-five rushing offense nationally. The Black Knights ranked in the top three from 2016–19 and again in 2021, leading the country in 2017. Army posted winning records five times in six years and appeared in five bowl games, earning four victories. The Black Knights won at least nine games four times.
In 2022, Army ranked second nationally in rushing offense with 3,473 yards and 38 rushing touchdowns, averaging 5.36 yards per rush. In 2021, the Black Knights ranked No. 1 in total rushing touchdowns (46), No. 2 in total first downs (205), rushing yards per game (286.4) and total rushing yards (3,648). The offense posted 500-yard games against UConn (504) and Wake Forest (595).
In 2020, Davis’ offense propelled Army to a 9–3 record behind the nation’s fourth-ranked rushing attack. Averaging 273 rushing yards per game, four Black Knight rushers averaged more than 40 yards per contest. Quarterback Tyhier Tyler and running backs Tyrell Robinson and JaKobi Buchanan earned Phil Steele All-Independent honors.
In 2019, the Black Knights averaged 297.2 rushing yards per game and totaled 3,863 rushing yards, both ranking third nationally.
Davis was named a nominee for the Broyles Award in 2017 after leading Army to an NCAA rushing title with 362.3 yards per game.
Prior to Army, Davis spent four seasons as Georgia Southern’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in his second stint in Statesboro, Ga. A veteran triple-option coordinator, Davis helped the Eagles reach three consecutive national semifinals. Georgia Southern led the nation in rushing offense in both 2011 and 2012. Davis also coached at Georgia Southern from 1997–2005, guiding the offensive line and running backs as the Eagles won seven conference championships and made eight playoff appearances. Georgia Southern captured four consecutive FCS rushing titles and led the nation in scoring in 2004 at 47.0 points per game.
Davis spent four seasons at VMI as offensive coordinator, serving his final year as interim head coach, before returning to Georgia Southern. The Keydets led the Big South Conference in rushing in all four seasons under Davis. VMI set a conference record with 357.5 rushing yards per game in 2008, while the 2009 squad averaged 276.6 yards per game. Both teams led the nation in rushing.
Davis lettered and earned Academic All-SEC honors before graduating from the University of Georgia in 1997 with a degree in business management. He is married to his wife, Jen.
