Benjamin Mitchell serves as assistant athletic director for creative and digital strategy at University of Pittsburgh Athletics, where he has been a member of the Panthers’ external team since 2019. Originally joining Pitt as director of graphic design, Mitchell has played a key role in the continued evolution of the department’s creative strategy, digital presence and brand identity.
In his current role, Mitchell oversees creative strategy, digital storytelling and brand development initiatives across Pitt Athletics’ platforms and external communications efforts. He works collaboratively across the department to enhance fan engagement, elevate the Pitt brand and support organizational priorities through integrated creative campaigns, content strategy and visual communications.
Throughout his career, Mitchell has led nationally recognized creative, communications and digital initiatives at multiple Division I institutions. His experience includes athletics rebrands, institutional identity development and modernization of digital and content strategies designed to strengthen audience growth, engagement and overall brand positioning.
Prior to Pitt, Mitchell served in athletics communications and creative roles at Saint Francis University and Campbell University, overseeing branding, digital content, broadcast production and public relations initiatives. He additionally gained experience at Thiel College, Villanova University and the College Football Hall of Fame, working across athletics communications, media relations, webcasting and archival operations.
In addition to his collegiate athletics experience, Mitchell has held creative leadership and marketing roles in the private sector, managing branding, promotional marketing and operational initiatives for growing businesses and entrepreneurial ventures.
A native of Western Pennsylvania, Mitchell brings more than two decades of experience in creative leadership, communications and strategic brand development. He earned a Master of Education in educational administration from Saint Francis University in 2008 after completing bachelor’s degrees in communication and sport management at Slippery Rock University in 2006.
