Tevin Hester joined the Pitt track & field coaching staff as an assistant coach in September of 2020. Hester will primarily work with the Panthers' sprinters.
Hester has made an immediate impact for the Panthers. In his three years at Pitt, he has coached athletes to 15 Indoor Top-10 performances and 18 Outdoor Top-10 performances, including multiple NCAA Regional Qualifiers.
Hester assisted the men’s 4x100m relay team of Nigel Hussey, Clement Campbell, Darren McQueen Jr. and Stephon Brown to a school record 39.73 time at the 2023 ACC Outdoor Championships.
During the 2023 season, Hester guided freshman Aleksandra Stoilova to four Top 10 school performances. Stoilova currently holds the second best 100m outdoor performance (11.50) and third best 200m outdoor performance (23.58). Imani Clark, holds the second best 200m outdoor performance (23.37) and is seventh in the 100m (11.65).
Hester coached Che Nwabuko to the third best indoor 60m time in school history (6.71) and the third best indoor 200m time in school history (21.08). Lonzell Feagin recorded the fifth best 400m (46.36) time.
Hester aided in the success of the 4x400m relay squads that finished second at the 2021 ACC Indoor Championships and third at the 2021 ACC Outdoor Championships. The 4x400m relay team of Ade Jones-Roundtree, Lonzell Feagin, Matt Wilson, and Cobe Wiggins advanced to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing 18th overall (3:09.97), receiving Honorable Mention All-American status.
Hester comes to Pitt after three seasons at Clemson as a volunteer assistant coach for the Tigers track & field program. During his three years at Clemson, Hester was a key member of the sprints staff that saw nine student-athletes earn Second Team All-American honors and 10 student-athletes earn First Team All-ACC honors. Hester helped the Clemson 4x400m relay squad collect the ACC title in 2019 while also seeing Rebekah Smith collect the Penn Relays 100m Championship of America title in 2018 under his guidance.
In total, Hester helped coach a pair of NCAA qualifiers in Rebekah Smith (60m) and Marcus Parker (200m) while also coaching two USA U23 NACAC Gold Medalists and one USA U23 NACAC Silver Medalist.
As a student-athlete at Clemson, Hester cemented himself as one of the greats for the Tigers as he earned All-America honors nine times which are third most in program history. He also collected a total of seven ACC individual titles (four outdoor, three indoor) in the 60m, 100m and 200m while being named All-ACC 12 times and earning ACC Indoor Freshman of the Year honors in 2013.
The talented sprinter qualified for the NCAA’s in a total of four events during his illustrious Clemson career while also being named 2016 USTFCCCA Southeast Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year and two-time ACC Most Outstanding Performer. Hester also collected a gold medal at the 2013 Pan American Junior Championships (4x100m) and a silver medal at the 2013 USA Junior Championships (100m).
He currently still ranks inside the top-10 in four events in Clemson program history as he ranks second in the outdoor 200m (20.13), third in the indoor 60m (6.56), fourth in the indoor 200m (20.71) and fifth in the outdoor 100m (10.05).

In the past three seasons in his role at Clemson, he has helped develop some of the top sprinters in the ACC and nationally and his plan is to do the same at Pitt. Hester earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Clemson University in 2016, where he was a four-year member of the Tigers track & field program and team captain.
