Kennedy Fitzgerald, MS, RD joined the University of Pittsburgh Department of Athletics in June 2022 as a Sports Nutrition Fellow.
As a Fellow, Fitzgerald is directly responsible for women’s soccer, swimming & diving, and softball. Fitzgerald works with these student-athletes on an individual and team level, including providing consults, meal planning, education, game day support, hydration testing, and body composition analysis.
Additional responsibilities include grocery store tours, cooking demonstrations, and supplement guidance. As a member of the Performance Team, Fitzgerald works closely with team physicians, athletic trainers, sports performance coaches, and mental health staff to provide inter-disciplinary care to her student-athletes.
Fitzgerald completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Arkansas in 2020. She then attended Auburn University where she completed her dietetic internship and graduated with an MS in Nutrition in May 2022. While completing her master’s degree, Fitzgerald worked with a variety of teams as a sports nutrition intern at Auburn University.
Beyond the Bio
What is your favorite thing to do in the city of Pittsburgh?
I love trying out different group fitness classes and appreciate the variety Pittsburgh has to offer!
What is your favorite aspect of working in Pitt’s athletic department?
Being surrounded by coworkers who help me grow professionally every day.
Hobbies outside of work?
Trying out new coffee shops, restaurants, workout classes, going to the local library, watching Netflix, traveling, watching Formula 1 races
What do you love most about working in athletics?
Collaborating with other members of the inter-disciplinary team to support student-athletes in reaching their performance and personal goals.
