Sam Medlock enters his second season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Pitt football.
Medlock arrived in Pittsburgh from Georgia Southern, where he was an assistant strength coach for the Eagles’ football program. Georgia Southern advanced to bowl games each season of his tenure.
During the 2021 season, Medlock was the head strength and conditioning coach for the football program at the University of Tennessee-Martin. The Skyhawks won the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) title and advanced to the NCAA Division I Football Championship playoffs that season, finishing with a 10-3 record.
In 2020, Medlock was an assistant director of football strength and conditioning at South Alabama. He spent two seasons (2018-19) as a graduate assistant at Florida International University, where in addition to football he directed the strength and conditioning for baseball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s track and field and women’s tennis.
Medlock was a four-year letterwinner at long snapper for FIU, earning All-Conference USA Honorable Mention each of his final two seasons. He additionally was recognized on the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll during his career.
Medlock earned his bachelor’s degree in sports and fitness studies from FIU in 2017.
His earned his first full-time appointment in 2018 as an assistant strength coach at Stetson University, where he worked with no fewer than 11 different sports. Medlock additionally held strength and conditioning intern positions with LSU (2021), Mississippi State (2018) and Cincinnati (2017).
He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
