Sam Kukura enters his first season as director of college scouting for the Pitt football program. He spent the previous two seasons as assistant director of player personnel for the Panthers.
This is actually his second tenure with Pitt. He previously was a Pitt recruiting analyst in 2022.
Between his two Pittsburgh stints, Kukura was a member of the football staff at Michigan State, serving as assistant director of player personnel.
He also owns on-field coaching experience. During the spring of 2022, Kukura was the tight ends coach at Slippery Rock University, a perennial NCAA Division II playoff contender.
Prior to Slippery Rock, he spent three seasons on the football staff at Akron, serving the Zips as an offensive graduate assistant (2020-21) and special teams quality control assistant (2019).
Kukura’s additional experience includes stints as the assistant recruiting coordinator at Case Western Reserve University (2019) and as a strength and conditioning intern for Perry (Ohio) High School.
Kukura himself was a collegiate football student-athlete. He lettered at Kent State and was an Mid-American Conference (MAC) All-Academic Team honoree during the 2015 season, before finishing his career at John Carroll University. Kukura was an All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) running back and helped the Blue Streaks to a 12-2 record and the semifinals of the 2016 NCAA Division III playoffs.
Kukura earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from John Carroll in 2018. He also owns a master’s degree in education from Akron.
