Peter Collins enters his second year as an offensive quality control assistant at Pitt.
In his initial season, the Panthers featured one of their most balanced offensive attacks in years, producing a 1,000-yard rusher and 1,000-yard receiver. It was the first time Pitt achieved that statistical pairing since 2014.
Israel Abanikanda was the ACC rushing champion with 1,431 yards and led the nation in scoring with 11.6 points per game. Abanikanda was named a first team All-American by CBS Sports and ESPN.
Wide receiver Jared Wayne enjoyed the highest production of his career, compiling 1,063 yards on 60 catches, earning All-ACC accolades.
Collins spent the 2021 season in the prep ranks, serving as co-offensive coordinator at Centennial (Ill.) High School. From 2018-20, he was an offensive analyst at the University of Illinois under Lovie Smith.
Collins’ Illinois tenure was highlighted by the 2019 campaign, when the Illini advanced to the Redbox Bowl on the strength of victories over No. 6 Wisconsin (24-23) and Michigan State (37-34). Illinois rallied from a 25-point deficit in defeating the Spartans, marking the biggest comeback in school history.
Prior to Illinois, Collins was the offensive coordinator at Becker College, an NCAA Division III program in Massachusetts, for two seasons (2016-17).
Collins’ additional appointments include stints at FIU (offensive graduate assistant, 2013-15), Rutgers (player development, 2010-12), Northeastern (assistant defensive line, 2009-10) and Delaware Valley College (running backs, 2007-09).
During the 2006 offseason, Collins completed a football operations internship with the Indianapolis Colts.
He is a 2007 graduate of the University of Mary Washington with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies. He completed a master’s degree in recreation and sport management from FIU in 2016.
Collins and his wife, Amy, have two daughters, Madelyn and Kate.
