John Ford Jr. enters his sixth season as assistant athletic director for football operations at Pitt.
In this capacity, Ford impacts virtually every aspect of the program from an organizational and planning standpoint. He is also highly instrumental in the Panthers’ road game travel, ensuring the preparation and organization of the team’s away game headquarters throughout the season.
Ford's leadership has been vital for a Pitt program that has achieved multiple Top 25 finishes and won an ACC championship during his tenure. His impact at Pitt actually reaches well beyond football. Ford is a member of the Leadership Team for Pitt Athletics, which is charged with providing direction and initiatives for the entire department.
Ford arrived in Pittsburgh with extensive operations experience and familiarity with the Atlantic Coast Conference. Prior to his appointment with the Panthers, he served on the football staff at Wake Forest for four years (2015-18).
During the 2018 season, Ford was the Demon Deacons’ associate director of football operations. His initial three years, he was an operations and video assistant.
During Ford’s tenure in Winston-Salem, the Deacs won three consecutive bowl games, including a 37-34 victory over Memphis in the 2018 Birmingham Bowl.
Prior to Wake Forest, Ford was an operations and video assistant at Rutgers during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He was also a four-year student assistant with the Scarlet Knights, working in the video and recruiting offices as an undergraduate.
Ford graduated from Rutgers in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He earned a master’s degree in liberal studies from Wake Forest in 2018.
A native of Piscataway, N.J., Ford attended Piscataway High School and was a football letterman for the Chiefs.
