2017: Enrolled in Pitt’s Katz Graduate School of Business in January following his transfer from USC…earned the Panthers’ starting quarterback job coming out of August training camp…played in six games, starting five…sustained a season-ending injury in the Oct. 7 Syracuse game…on the season, completed 71% of his passes (96 of 135) for 997 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions…enjoyed the finest game of his collegiate career—and one of the most prolific passing outings in Pitt history—in leading the Panthers to a 42-10 win over Rice…hit 88% of his passes (28 of 32) for 410 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions against the Owls…three of Browne's four incompletions were dropped passes…in the first half alone, he was 14 of 16 for 247 yards with both incompletions coming on drops…Browne's passing yardage against Rice was the highest by a Pitt player since Tom Savage threw for 424 at Duke on Sept. 21, 2013…additionally, Browne's 28 completions were the most at Pitt since Savage also threw 28 at Syracuse on Nov. 23, 2013…Browne became one of only nine players in Pitt football history to throw for more than 400 yards…overall, Browne's 410 passing yards ranked eighth all-time in Pitt annals…named ACC Offensive Back of the Week for his Rice performance and was also recognized as one of the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award's "Great 8" performers and one of eight Manning Award "Stars of the Week"...named a Pitt team captain, an honor he also held at USC.
AT SOUTHERN CAL (2013-16): In his three active seasons with the Trojans (2014-16), completed 69-of-112 passes (62%) for 650 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in 18 games…in 2016, Browne played in nine total games, starting the initial three contests of the season (Alabama, Utah State and Stanford)…on the season completed 58-of-93 passes (62%) for 507 yards with two TDs and two INTs…served as a USC captain…in his first career start, completed 14-of-29 passes for 101 yards and an interception against Alabama…completed his first seven passes against the Crimson Tide…against Utah State, completed 23-of-30 passes for 182 yards with two TDs and an INT…at Stanford, completed 18-of-28 passes for 191 yards…selected the winner of USC’s 2016 Howard Jones/Football Alumni Club Academic Award.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a highly decorated prep quarterback at Skyline High School…honors included Gatorade National Football Player of the Year, USA TODAY All-USA Offensive Player of the Year, Parade All-American, ESPN 150, Rivals 100 and Scout 100…at the conclusion of his four-year varsity career (the final three as a starter), Browne set state records for passing yards (12,953, eighth best nationally) and completions (882) while throwing 146 TDs against just 25 interceptions…played under Coach Mat Taylor.
PERSONAL: Max Austin Browne, born 2/2/95, is the son of Mike and Cheryl Browne...has three brothers...brother, Mitch, played quarterback at Claremont McKenna College...father played at Idaho...earned his bachelor's degree in communication from USC in 2015 before pursuing his MBA in Pitt's Katz Graduate School of Business.
