Pitt Men and Women Claim First at Panther Open

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's and women's cross country programs both claimed team victories at the Panther Open on Friday at Schenley Park.
The Panthers made a statement in the men's race, sweeping the top five spots to win the team competition. Nick Steinfeldt crossed first with a time of 14:54.6, followed closely by Nolan McGinn (14:54.7) and Luke Simpson (14:54.7). Jacob Abraham (14:54.8) and Andrew Bitsko (14:56.0) rounded out the top five to complete the sweep. Chris Belch (15:15.9) and Ethan Feinstein (15:25.2) also turned in strong efforts for the Panthers.
Maureen Cheruiyot put together an impressive individual performance, winning the women's race by nearly a minute with a time of 16:58.3. Ella Cook (18:05.6), Elena Barrall (18:08.1), Annie Czajkowski (18:13.4) and Sienna Miller (18:15.2) followed to give Pitt five finishers in the top nine and secure the team victory. Alex Fleck (18:21.6) and Sophia Hnetinka (18:28.3) also contributed for the Panthers.
