PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's basketball has announced a home-and-home series with Butler beginning with a game at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in 2026. The two teams will play in Petersen Events Center in 2027.
Pitt and Butler will play for the 15th time on Nov. 13, 2026 inside Hinkle Fieldhouse. That contest will be the first time the two programs have played since Pitt defeated Butler 68-62 in overtime in the semifinals of the 2012 College Basketball Invitational (CBI). The Panthers went on to win the 2012 CBI by defeating Washington State in a best two-out-of-three series after dropping the opening game by one point.
In 2011, Pitt and Butler met in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32, a game in which the Bulldogs came away with a 71-70 victory. Butler would advance all the way to the national championship game that season before losing to UConn in the finals.
The other 12 games in the all-time series took place between 1928 and 1946 with Butler hosting each game in the series. Butler holds an 8-6 advantage.
Pitt will host Butler in 2027 with a game date yet to be determined. That will be the first contest between the two programs ever played in Pittsburgh.
Pitt's non-conference schedule continues to come together as the program has previously announced three other non-ACC games. The Panthers will face Oklahoma (Nov. 24) and DePaul (Nov. 26) in the Fort Myers Tip-Off. Pitt will play at Missouri on Dec. 1 for the ACC/SEC Challenge. The ACC has also announced opponents for the 2026-27 league schedule.
