No. 14 Pitt Earns 22-9 Road Win Over No. 11 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 14 Pitt earned a 22-9 road victory over No. 11 North Carolina at Carmichael Arena Friday night. The Panthers improved to 10-2 overall and 2-1 in conference duals.
The Panthers won seven of 10 matches in a tightly contested dual. The dual featured six bouts that were scoreless through the first period, with nine matches being decided by decision. Pitt maintained control throughout the dual, winning close bouts and capitalizing on bonus points at heavyweight.
Starting at 149, No. 20 Kade Brown gave Pitt the early advantage with a 10-3 win by decision over Nick O'Neil. Brown led 9-2 in the third period, but O'Neil escaped with 30 seconds remaining to avoid a bonus-point loss.
No. 17 Dylan Evans followed with a victory at 157, securing a late takedown in the third period to win by a 4-1 decision over No. 28 Laird Root. At 174, No. 19 Luca Augustine and Collin Carrigan were locked in a 1-1 tie heading into the third period. An escape followed by a violation gave Augustine the 3-1 decision. No. 8 Mac Stout added another victory with a 4-1 decision at 197.
No. 15 Dayton Pitzer secured a 15-2 major decision over Jacob Levy at heavyweight to sway the dual in the Panthers' favor. Pitzer scored two takedowns and got four back points in the third period to lead to his bonus point victory. Evan Tallmadge earned an 8-2 win over No. 19 Ethan Oakley to clinch the dual for the Panthers. Briar Priest closed out the dual with a 2-0 win by decision over Matthew Botello at 141.
The Panthers dropped three hard-fought bouts, each to top 15 opponents. Jared Keslar dropped a close 4-2 decision to No. 14 Bryce Hepner. No. 28 Chase Kranitz fell to No. 13 Jake Dailey, 7-3, and Tyler Chappell battled back in a close matchup against No. 15 Kysen Terukina but dropped an 8-5 decision.
