Ugwu, Kranitz Named PNC Achievers of the Week

PITTSBURGH- Track and field's Emeka Ugwu and wrestling's Chase Kranitz have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week for their standout performances over the past week.
Ugwu recorded Pitt's second-best mark in the shot put in program history at the Nittany Lion Challenge, Saturday afternoon. Ugwu launched a 18.31-meter mark to finish third in the competition. The sophomore's personal best is currently first in the event in the ACC and 25th in the country.
Kranitz went 2-0 over the weekend and helped lead the No. 15 Pitt Panthers to dual victories over No. 22 West Virginia and Duke. Pitt won the final three bouts against the Mountaineers to secure a thrilling 17-15 comeback victory before closing the weekend with a dominant 40-0 win over Duke.
Kranitz helped jumpstart Pitt's comeback over West Virginia while trailing 15-7 heading into the final three bouts of the night. He delivered a momentum-shifting upset over No. 19 Ian Bush. Kranitz and Bush were locked in a scoreless battle through two periods, Kranitz struck with a third-period takedown and sealed a 4-2 victory. Kranitz picked up his second win of the weekend with a 15-2 major decision over David Hussey at Duke. He jumped out to an early 7-0 lead with a takedown and four near-fall points, then continued to build his advantage on the way to a commanding major decision at 184 pounds.
