PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's basketball program has announced that redshirt sophomore forward Papa Amadou Kante will undergo an arthroscopic right knee procedure and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
"We're disappointed for Papa to have this setback after working so hard to return to the court after missing the 2023-24 season with a knee injury," head coach Jeff Capel said. "He's shown tremendous resilience throughout his time in our program and we know he will attack this process with the same determination."
Kante played in eight games for the Panthers this season, averaging 2.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He recorded double-figure rebound performances against Youngstown State (10) and Bucknell (11). The Dakar, Senegal native missed the 2023-24 season following knee surgery and averaged 2.1 points and 1.1 rebounds over 22 games a year ago.
Separately, sophomore forward Amdy Ndiaye is no longer a part of the Pitt basketball program. Ndiaye did not play during the 2025-26 season. The program wishes him well in his future endeavors.
Pitt is 7-7 on the year and 0-1 in ACC play. The Panthers return to action Saturday when they host Clemson at noon inside the Petersen Events Center. The game will be televised on The CW.
