PITTSBURGH –The Pitt Football team welcomed more than 130 young athletes to its practice facility last weekend for a special youth football camp, continuing the program's strong commitment to giving back and inspiring the next generation of Panthers.
Held at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, the camp provided local youth football players with a memorable opportunity to learn directly from Pitt's coaching staff and current student-athletes. Throughout the camp, participants rotated through a variety of fundamental skill stations focused on agility, catching, throwing, tackling technique, and teamwork, all under the guidance of the Panthers.
"This is what it's all about. Football bringing people together," said Head Coach Pat Narduzzi. "Our players had just as much fun as the kids did. Days like this remind us why we do what we do."
In addition to Pitt's staff, the event was led by Pitt players Isaiah Montgomery, Cataurus "Blue" Hicks, Tai Ray, Raphael "Poppi" Williams Jr., Truitt Brown, Censere Lee, Adam Howanitz, and Luke DelGaudio. The group coached, encouraged, and even joined in a few of the drills with the kids.
"It meant a lot to see how excited they were to be here," said Hicks, a wide receiver and one of the afternoon's most animated instructors. "We were in their shoes once. If we can show them a little love and help them see what hard work looks like, that's a win."
The camp concluded with a group huddle and photo on the practice field, where the kids left with Pitt-branded T-shirts, autographs and memories they won't soon forget.
Sunday's camp was one of several the program has hosted over the years, as Pitt continues to foster strong connections with the next generation of players and fans.
