Where Panthers write their legacy
Every legacy starts with a story. This is Jimmy Scott's Script.
The Script is a player-by-player spotlight on Pitt Football, where stats meet story. Each edition dives into the numbers, personality, and path of the Panthers writing their own legacy—one chapter at a time.
The Numbers
- 2024 Stats: Started all 13 games at defensive end and compiled 30 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble. Finished second on the team in sacks and third in TFLs.
- Disrupter in the Backfield: Recorded at least one TFL in seven games, showcasing his consistency as a pass rusher and run stopper.
- ACC Honors: Earned ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week after posting a career-high six tackles, 3.5 TFLs, and three sacks in Pitt's win over Cal.
- The State Standard: Out of high school, Scott was the top defensive end prospect in New York and a finalist for the Trench Trophy, awarded to Western New York's Lineman of the Year. He was a First Team All-Western New York selection and rated the state's No. 3 overall prospect by Rivals and 247Sports, and No. 5 by ESPN.
The Story
The Buffalo, N.Y., native brought a relentless motor and fearless mindset to the Panthers' defensive front, instantly becoming a problem for ACC offensive lines. His blend of speed, strength, and technique allowed him to thrive off the edge in defensive coordinator Randy Bates' system. But it's not just his production that stands out — it's his preparation and presence. Scott has quickly become a tone-setter in the locker room and one of the most respected voices on the defensive side of the ball.
The Outlook
With one standout season already in the books, Scott returns in 2025 as a centerpiece of Pitt's pass rush and a top-tier edge threat in the conference. Named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-ACC Second Team, he's poised to elevate his game even further this fall. As Pitt reloads and looks to make noise in the ACC, expect Scott to anchor a defensive front built on disruption, while continuing to write a script that offenses won't soon forget.
