Where Panthers write their legacy
Every legacy starts with a story. This is Kyle Louis' Script.
The Script is a player-by-player spotlight on Pitt Football, where stats meet story. Each edition dives into the numbers, personality, and path of the Panthers writing their own legacy—one chapter at a time.
The Numbers
- 2024 Stats: 101 total tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks, and four interceptions, including a 59-yard pick-six against Syracuse.
- National Recognition: Named a First Team All-American by The Sporting News, becoming Pitt's first sophomore defensive player to earn that honor from an NCAA-recognized selector since the legendary Hugh Green in 1978. He also earned Second Team All-America honors from the Associated Press, CBS Sports, Phil Steele, and The Athletic.
- ACC Honors: Louis was selected First Team All-ACC, receiving the highest point total of any linebacker. He also finished third in ACC Defensive Player of the Year voting and was the only non-senior among the top five vote-getters. Additionally, Louis was a two-time ACC Linebacker of the Week (vs. West Virginia and North Carolina) and a three-time Pro Football FocusACC Team of the Week honoree.
- Elite Company: Louis and Utah's Devin Lloyd (a 2021 consensus All-American) are the only defenders in the past decade to record 100-plus tackles, four-plus interceptions, and seven-plus sacks in a single season.
The Story
Recruited without much fanfare, the East Orange, N.J., native arrived at Pitt with something to prove, and hasn't stopped proving it since. From special teams contributor to All-American playmaker, his rise has mirrored Pitt's defensive resurgence. With instinct, toughness, and sideline-to-sideline speed, Louis is more than just a tackler—he's a tone-setter. As one of the most respected voices in the locker room, he's leading the next wave of Panthers by example.
The Outlook
A redshirt junior, Louis has already been named one of college football's most impactful players to watch in 2025, including a First Team Preseason All-America nod from Phil Steele. His commitment to excellence has set the standard inside Pitt's locker room, helping to build a culture defined by accountability and hard work. As the Panthers look ahead to the 2025 season, Louis' leadership and playmaking will be vital in their pursuit of success in the ACC and beyond.
