PITTSBURGH – Head coach Jeff Capel and his staff continued to build out the 2025-26 roster with the signing of high school standout Macari Moore Thursday afternoon. Moore earned Michigan Sports Writers Division I First Team All-State and Michigan Mr. Basketball Finalist accolades after leading Huron High School to a 22-win season in 2024-25.
"Macari is a tenacious competitor who showed winning traits throughout his high school and AAU career," said Capel. "He plays with an attacking style on both ends of the floor and has built a strong reputation around his work ethic. He is at his best as a downhill driver getting in the lane to make plays for himself or teammates and has also shown the ability knock down shots from the perimeter. He will fit in well with the backcourt we are building at Pitt, and we are excited to see how he continues to develop in our program."
Moore led Huron to three conference titles and an 86-17 record (47-5 in conference play) over four seasons, while scoring over 1,500 points to set a school career scoring record previously held by Syracuse standout and 1983 NBA Draft selection Erich Santifer.
As a senior, he averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game as Huron finished 22-5 overall and 12-0 in league play to capture the Southeastern Conference Red title. He shot nearly 65 percent from the field, including 47 percent from three-point range, and 82 percent from the foul line as the River Rats reached the quarterfinals of the MHSAA Division I Tournament and closed the season ranked No. 9 in the state.
Moore averaged 23 points, five rebounds and 4.5 assists to help Huron to a 22-5 record and MHSAA Division 1 State Semifinal appearance as a junior as he was named 2024 Ann Arbor Player of the Year, while also earning first team all-state and Detroit News All-West First Team honors.
He also helped the River Rats to 20+ win seasons and conference titles playing varsity as a freshman and sophomore.
Ranked as the second-best high school player from Michigan in the 2025 class, Moore did not compete on the Nike EYBL circuit last summer due to an ankle injury.
Moore originally committed to Iowa State in November of 2024, while also holding offers from Louisville, Toledo, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, and Eastern Michigan. He reopened his recruitment in March of 2025.
With the addition of Moore, the Panthers have now added eight newcomers to the roster for 2025-26. Pitt has signed four players out of the transfer portal in Barry Dunning, Jr. (South Alabama), Nojus Indrusaitis (Iowa State), Dishon Jackson (Iowa State), and Damarco Minor (Oregon State), while Moore is the fourth signee without collegiate experience, along with Omari Witherspoon (St. John's College), Henry Lau (Sydney Boys High/Sydney Kings) and Kieran Mullen (St. Thomas More).
The Panthers continue to be active recruiting with multiple roster spots remaining for the 2025-26 season.
