PITTSBURGH— The Pitt football team capped its spring season on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium with the Blue-Gold Spring Game presented by MAC.BID.
It was a brisk afternoon on the North Shore of Pittsburgh as Pitt's Blue Team emerged with a 17-14 victory over Gold in a competitive intrasquad scrimmage.
Blue commanded the first quarter, starting with an interception on the second play of the game by Ed Conway Award Winner DB Shadarian Harrison. Following a PK Sam Carpenter 29-yard field goal, Blue tacked on seven more points with a trick 14-yard pass from All-America LB Kyle Louis to WR Zion Fowler-El for a 10-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Blue Team continued to pile on the points in the second half, tossing a 65-yard touchdown pass from QB Mason Heintschel to WR Cataurus "Blue" Hicks 11 seconds into the third quarter for a 17-0 lead. Hicks led all receivers with three receptions for 67 yards.
Defensively, Harrison added another interception on fourth down with four minutes left to play in the third quarter. He posted four total tackles on the day to go along with his game-leading two picks.
The Gold Team struck back in the fourth quarter, scoring on a two-yard RB Justin Cook rush and a two-yard touchdown catch by WR Cameron Sapp from QB Eli Holstein, but it wasn't to overtake Blue.
Cook had a stellar day for Gold, leading his team with 10 rushes for 42 yards and a score, as well as pacing all receivers with 12 catches for 68 yards. RB Ja'Kyrian Turner led both teams with 17 rushing attempts for 44 yards.
