PITTSBURGH – Jill Fenech from lacrosse and wrestler Dayton Pitzer have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week for their exceptional performances last week.
Senior Jill Fenech played a pivotal role in Pitt Lacrosse's first ACC win in nearly three years on Saturday against Cal. The Ontario, Canada native scored two goals, including the game-winner, while also providing a spark in the draw circle during the second half. Fenech secured six draw controls herself and helped the Panthers dominate by winning all nine draws in the final 30 minutes of play, leading the team to the largest comeback in program history. Between Saturday's victory and last Monday's 23-3 rout of Niagara, Fenech totaled three goals, one ground ball, three caused turnovers, and 10 draw controls.
Dayton Pitzer won the heavyweight title and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the 2025 ACC Championships at Duke University on Sunday. Pitzer defeated the top two seeded wrestlers in his weight class en route to claiming his first ACC title. In the semifinals, he used a late takedown in the second period to secure a 4-1 victory over No. 1 seed Isaac Trumble of NC State. Pitzer carried that momentum into the finals, earning a 4-1 sudden-victory win over No. 2 seed Jimmy Mullen of Virginia Tech. The match went to sudden victory after a stalling call on Pitzer tied the score at 1-1 at the end of regulation. Less than a minute into overtime, Pitzer executed a takedown to clinch his first ACC title.
Pitzer and the Panthers will close out the season at the 2025 NCAA Championships at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, from March 20-22.
