PITTSBURGH – Pitt sophomore guard Jaland Lowe was named Third Team All-ACC, while redshirt senior Zack Austin grabbed a spot on ACC All-Defensive Team as announced on ACC PM Monday evening.
Lowe, one of eight players in the NCAA averaging at least 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game, is averaging a team-high 16.8 points to go along with 4.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.77 steals per game. He leads the Panthers with five double-doubles and 10 20+ point scoring games. The Missouri City, Texas, native has scored in double-figures 25 times and has also led the Panthers in assists in 26 games, while recording five or more assists in a game 19 times.
Lowe ranks among the ACC leaders in scoring (T-9th - 16.8 ppg.), free throw percentage (1st - .883), steals (4th - 1.77 spg.), assists (5th - 5.5 apg.), assist-to-turnover ratio (13th - 1.90:1), and minutes (4th - 35.3 mpg.). He is one of three players, joined by Brandin Knight (2001-02) and Vonteego Cummings (1997-98), in program history to record 500+ points and 150+ assists in a season. He enters Tuesday's ACC Tournament game against Notre Dame with 503 points and 165 assists.
Lowe becomes the ninth Panther to earn All-ACC honors (first, second, or third team). Pitt has had an all-conference selection in each of the past three seasons.
Austin established himself as one of the top three and D players in the NCAA this season and is averaging 9.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and an ACC-leading 1.65 blocks in 32.0 minutes per game. He leads the Panthers in three-point field goals (54) and blocked shots (51) and is the only player in the NCAA in the 50-50 club (three-pointers and blocks) this season.
Austin leads the ACC in STOCKS (steals + blocks) with 86. He has 15 games with two or more blocked shots and has scored in double-figures 12 times, while making two or more threes in a game 16 times. Austin leads the ACC in blocks (51) and is attempting to join Charles Smith (Big East - 1987) as the only Panthers to lead the conference in blocks in a season.
