No. 15 Pitt Falls to No. 14 Iowa State, 23-14

AMES, Iowa – The 15th-ranked Pitt wrestling team fell on the road to No. 14 Iowa State, 23-14, at the Hilton Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers (9-5, 2-2 ACC) dropped to an early 16-0 deficit after Iowa State claimed the first four matches of the day. No. 23 Dylan Evans got the Panthers going in the 157-pound match and picked up his second win of the weekend with a 11-3 major decision over Carter Fousek.
In the 184-pound match, Chase Kranitz wrestled in place for usual 184-starter Reece Heller. Kranitz pulled off a win for the Panthers as he defeated Caleb Helgeson with an 10-4 decision to win the second match of the day for Pitt.
Pitt went on to win the final two matches with No. 10 Mac Stout extending his winning streak to 16 matches with an 11-2 major decision over Nate Schon at 197. Stout improved to 11-0 in bonus point victories, including winning six of his last seven matches by bonus points.
No. 13 Dayton Pitzer bounced back with a ranked win over No. 26 Daniel Herrera, 5-3, in the final match of the day.
In the 149-pound match, freshman Kade Brown looked to upset No. 7 Paniro Johnson as the match was tied 1-1 heading into sudden victory. Johnson got the takedown in overtime to secure the 4-1 sudden victory and extend the Cyclones' lead.
The Panthers returns to action Friday, Feb. 14 for a road dual at No. 10 Virginia Tech (ACCNX – 7 p.m.).
