No. 18 Pitt Beats Virginia in Regular Season Finale

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 18th-ranked Pitt wrestling team won six bouts, including three bonus-point decisions, to defeat Virginia 23-13 at the Aquatics and Fitness Center, Friday night. The Panthers end the regular season with a 10-6 dual record and a 3-3 mark in conference duals.
Starting at 149, the Cavaliers took two of the first three matches for a 6-3 advantage. Dylan Evans came out on top in a tight 157-pound match. Evans and Michael Gioffre were tied 1-1 with 1:40 remaining in the third period as Evan was awarded with a late takedown after review to win 4-1.
Luca Augustine got the first bonus-point win for the Panthers at 174, securing the 19-4 technical fall win over Rocco Contino to give the Panthers an 8-6 lead. The momentum continued for the Panthers as they won the next four straight bouts. Reece Heller returned to the lineup and won at 184 as Mac Stout won by a major decision at 197.
Dayton Pitzer extended the lead with another technical fall win at heavyweight. Pitzer trailed 3-0 in the first period and went on to score 18 unanswered points to secure the bonus-point victory. Nick Babin earned the final win of the night at 125 pounds to end close out the final dual of the season.

Pitt will begin preparation for the 2025 ACC Wrestling Championships, hosted by Duke University at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Sunday, March 9. The Panthers will look to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Championships at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia from March 20-22.
