PITTSBURGH— The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced today that 26 Modern-Era Player candidates have advanced to the semifinalist stage for the Class of 2026, highlighted by Pitt legend Larry Fitzgerald, who is on the ballot in his first year of eligibility.
Fitzgerald's inclusion marks yet another milestone in the storied career of one of Pitt's most iconic Panthers. A unanimous All-American during his two seasons at Pitt (2002–03), Fitzgerald won the Biletnikoff Award, the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up in 2003. He went on to a 17-year NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals, retiring as one of the league's most prolific receivers and one of the most respected figures in professional football.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame's selection process will continue with the narrowing of the list to Finalists before the Class of 2026 is announced early next year.
