PITTSBURGH – Pitt true freshman Trey Butkowski has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced today.
Butkowski is one of only four Pitt kickers to be named a Groza semifinalist, joining Ben Sauls (2024), Alex Kessman (2020) and Chris FerenciK (1995). Pitt has now had a Groza semifinalist in each of the last two seasons.
Butkowski has a team-high 97 points, converting 19-of-21 field goals (90.5 %) and 40-of-41 extra-point tries. He currently ranks first in the ACC and second in the country in scoring.
The true freshman set a Pitt record for consecutive field goals made, converting 16 in a row at one point this season. A native of Orlando, Fla., he made a career-long 47-yard field goal in Pitt's win over Boston College and has been a perfect 13-of-13 from inside 40 yards so far this year.
Butkowski notched a career-high 17 points in the Panthers' win against NC State, converting four field goals (34, 35, 41, 43) and five extra-points.
The Panthers travel to No. 16 Georgia Tech this Saturday to take on the Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
