PITTSBURGH – True freshman quarterback Mason Heintschel has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week for his performance in the Panthers' 48-7 win over Boston College last Saturday.
Making his first career start, Heintschel completed 30 of 41 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns against the Eagles.
He became the first true freshman quarterback at Pitt to win his first career start since Kenny Pickett in 2017, when the Panthers defeated No. 2 Miami.
The Oregon, Ohio, native was also the first ACC true freshman with 300 passing yards and four touchdowns in their first career start since Deshaun Watson in 2014.
Heintschel led Pitt's offense to 503 total yards (331 passing, 172 rushing) on Saturday, the Panthers' most in a game since their win at North Carolina on Oct. 5, 2024.
Heintschel and the Panthers travel to Tallahassee to face No. 25 Florida State this Saturday at noon. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN and can also be heard on 93.7 The Fan.
