PITTSBURGH – Football's Cataurus "Blue" Hicks and Swimming & Diving's Sydney Gring have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week for their standout performances over the past week.
Gring played a key role in Pitt's historic victory over Penn State, sweeping the butterfly events with wins in the 200-yard (1:56.07) and 100-yard (51.62) races. Her 200-yard butterfly time set a new program record. Gring also contributed to two relay victories for the Panthers, helping Pitt open the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay and closing it out with another victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, which set a pool record with a time of 3:14.91.
Hicks caught four passes for a career-high 120 yards and a touchdown in Pitt's 53-34 win over NC State this past weekend. Hicks broke the game open in the third quarter when he connected with quarterback Mason Heintschel for an 84-yard score — the longest touchdown of his career and tied for the longest touchdown reception by a Pitt player in Acrisure Stadium history. The 84-yard connection also ranks as the fourth-longest touchdown pass in program history. Hicks' 120 receiving yards marked the most by a Pitt wide receiver in a game this season.
