PITTSBURGH—The Pitt Football program mourns the passing of Dr. David Blandino, a former Panther offensive tackle and distinguished physician, who passed away on September 30.
Blandino lettered from 1971-73 and helped lead the Panthers to the 1973 Fiesta Bowl, the program's first postseason trip in nearly two decades. A standout in the classroom, he earned a 3.83 GPA in economics, was named a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete, and received the NCAA Today's Top V Award.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Pitt in 1974 and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine in 1978. Blandino then went on to build a distinguished career in Family Medicine, serving patients and mentoring young doctors. He also held leadership roles with Highmark Health, Gateway Health, and Allegheny Health Network. In 1999, he was recognized by the Pitt Varsity Letter Club as an "Awardee of Distinction."
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, their children, and grandchildren.
