PITTSBURGH – Volleyball's Olivia Babcock and football's Ja'Kyrian Turner have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week for their standout performances this past week.
Babcock recorded a season-high 30 kills on a blistering .519 hitting percentage from the right side with only three errors on 52 swings against No. 18 Miami on Friday night. She added a match-high 14 digs, five blocks and two aces to round out her stat line. This marked her third 30+ kill match of her career. She followed that performance up with another dominant double-double of 18 kills, 11 digs and tied the match high with six blocks against Florida State. She hit .361 on the afternoon and had seven more kills than the next closest kill getter.
Turner recorded the first multiple-touchdown game of his young career in Pitt's upset win at No. 25 Florida State this past weekend. The true freshman rushed for 44 yards on 10 carriers, scoring on runs of three and ten yards. His three-yard TD rush late in the fourth quarter helped seal the win over the Seminoles. Turner added four receptions for 34 yards as he totaled 78 all-purpose yards in the win. Amongst ACC freshman, the Wildwood, FL native ranked first in rushing TDs (2), third in scrimmage yards (78) and fourth in total offense in week 7.
