
Panthers Wrap Up Olympic Trials

Five Panthers Compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials, Max Matteazzi Competes at Sette Colli Trophy
PITTSBURGH – The Pitt swimming and diving team had five Panthers compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials June 17-21. Jerry Chen, Claire Jansen and Adam Mahler competed at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis while Cameron Cash and Dylan Reed competed at the diving trials in Knoxville, Tenn.
Cash and Reed continued their dominance from the regular season, placing in the top 18 in the springboard semifinals. Reed placed 14th in the prelims (334.80) and 18th overall in the semifinals (308.60), while Cash finished 15th in the prelims (334.75) and 17th in the semifinals (323.35).
Jansen kicked off the trials for the Panthers on Monday, swimming a best time of 1:01.69 and placing 29th overall in the prelims of the 100 Back. The Naperville, Ill. native was seeded 58 out of 63 heading into the meet with a seed time 1:01.89. Jansen was one of 13 competitors that improved their seed time during the preliminary round.
Mahler swam a time of 2:01.54 and finished 58th in the 200 Fly while Chen clocked in at 2:15.57 in the 200 Breast and finished 45th.
On the international stage, Max Matteazzi competed at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome. Matteazzi finished third in the 200 IM with a personal record time of 1:59.56. Matteazzi was more than a second off of the Olympic qualifying time, just behind fellow Italian swimmer Alberto Razzetti (1:58.99).
