Carrington & Hinson Set to Participate at NBA Combine & NBA G League Elite Camp

PITTSBURGH – Carlton Carrington was one of 78 players invited to the 2024 NBA Draft Combine, while Blake Hinson is among 44 players selected to participate in the G League Elite Camp. The NBA Draft Combine will take place May 12-19 at Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis in Chicago, with the Elite Camp occurring two days prior to the combine at the same venue.
The G League Elite Camp features two days of scrimmaging with at least a half dozen of the 44 players moving on to participate in the NBA Draft Combine.
As set forth in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, all invited players are required to attend and participate in the NBA Draft Combine. The NBA may excuse an invited player's attendance or participation at the Draft Combine and require the player to complete Draft Combine activities at a later date.
Carrington and Hinson are two of 16 players from the Atlantic Coast Conference invited to Chicago. Over the past 10 drafts (2014-23), the ACC leads all conferences with 57 first-round selections. The ACC has also had 33 top 14 selections over the past 14 years and since 1996 leads all conferences with 58 lottery selections.
Carrington was the only freshman in the NCAA to average at least 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game this past season, while helping lead the Panthers to a 22-11 record overall and a fourth-place finish in the ACC. He finished his first year at Pitt averaging 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game, while making 65 three-point field goals. Carrington scored in double figures 23 times, including five games with 20 or more points scored. He opened his career with a triple-double (18 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) against NC A&T and closed the season with a 24-point effort against No. 4 North Carolina in the ACC Tournament Semifinals.
Seven of the past eight freshmen to average at least 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game have been selected in the top 15 of their respective NBA Drafts. Each of the past nine freshmen to post those numbers went on to become NBA First Round Draft picks with seven of the nine being selected among the first six picks in the draft.
Hinson averaged 18.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while scoring 20 or more points 15 times and making a school record 110 three-point field goals, in leading Pitt to a 22-11 record (12-8 ACC), fourth-place league finish, and an ACC Tournament Semifinal appearance in 2023-24. He shot a career-best 42.1 percent from three-point range and finished tied for 11th in the ACC record books in three-point field goals. Hinson holds three of the top seven games in program history for most threes, including a school record nine three-pointers in wins over West Virginia and Louisville this season. His 41-point outburst against Louisville is tied for the third most points in a game by a Panther and is a Pitt Petersen Events Center record. He earned First Team All-ACC and NABC All-District 2 Second Team honors in his final season at Pitt.
The Deltona, Fla., native left his mark in just two seasons at Pitt, becoming the fourth fastest player to score 1,000 career points (61 games), while totaling 1,159 points (16.8 ppg.), 363 rebounds (5.3 rpg.), and 207 three-point field goals in 69 total games. He finished his Pitt career ranked 30th in scoring and seventh in three-point field goals, and sixth in three-point percentage (.401). Hinson also set a school record for threes per game (3.0 3pg.) and joined Michael Young (2016, 2017) as the only Panthers to garner All-ACC accolades in multiple seasons.
