PITTSBURGH – Softball's Cami Compson as well as Track & Field's Foluke Olujide-Ajibade and Ethan Maher were named this week's PNC Achievers of the Week.
This past weekend, senior Foluke Olujide-Ajibade broke the women's hammer throw school record, throwing for 62.68-meters en route to first place in the event at the Virginia Challenge. She conquered Andin Fosam's 61.67-meter school record by more than a meter in her sixth and final throw of the day. Fosam's record had stood since 2017.
Cami Compson helped lead Pitt to a series win over Syracuse, going 4-for-9 at the plate with seven RBI, a double, and hitting a home run in each of the three games. Friday's game against the Orange went back-and-forth as the Panthers led by one run heading into the final two innings of play. Compson launched a three-run homer to center field off an 0-1 pitch to put the Panthers up 8-3 in the sixth inning. Compson hit another two-run homer on Saturday and started off the four-home run first inning on Sunday with another two-run home run.
Senior Ethan Maher won the Benson Hodge Memorial Invitational 5000-meter race in 14:55.98, a new personal best. It was the first time that Maher ran sub-15 minutes in the event in his career and is also his first event title.
