DURHAM, N.C.—The No. 19 Pitt wrestling team dispatched of Duke on Friday night, 36-9, at the historic Cameron Indoor Stadium to earn its first ACC win of the season.
The Panthers (8-6, 1-1 ACC) beat the Blue Devils (4-10, 0-2) for the 11th consecutive year since the two programs have met annually as Atlantic Coast Conference members.
Pitt won eight of the 10 bouts to get back in the win column after facing its first unranked opponent in dual action in nearly two months.
"Our schedule has been a gauntlet, so happy to get a win tonight," Pitt head coach Keith Gavin said. "We scored a lot of points and had some good moments, but we need to just keep getting better."
Duke scored first with a pin at 125 pounds, but Pitt responded by winning the next eight matches, earning bonus points in seven of those contests via one pin, three technical falls and three majors.
All seven of Pitt's ranked wrestlers in action won.
No. 23 Vinnie Santaniello at 133 pounds and No. 22 Cole Matthews at 141 put up big points in winning by technical fall to turn around the Panthers' early deficit.
No. 28 Finn Solomon picked up his third win of the season by pin at 149 pounds, and Jared Keslar at 157 and No. 15 Holden Heller at 165 followed that up with decisive victories.
No. 21 Luca Augustine at 174 pounds, No. 9 Reece Heller at 184 and No. 15 Mac Stout at 197 each scored double-digit points in their individual bouts to win by bonus-point margins for the Panthers.
Full results from Friday's Pitt-Duke dual are available below.
Pitt wrestling will return to Tobacco Road next week for a Friday night dual at North Carolina. The Panthers and Tar Heels will battle at Carmichael Arena at 7 p.m. on the ESPN app via ACC Network Extra.
