PITTSBURGH – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday morning that Pitt's home game against Cal on Wednesday, Jan. 1 will tip at 2 p.m. on the ACC Network.
The Panthers, 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the ACC, will face Cal for just the fourth time in program history and the first time at the Petersen Events Center. The two teams have not met since a 63-50 Pitt win in the 2002 NCAA Tournament at Mellon Arena.
The first contest in the series was scheduled for Dec. 28, 1931 but snowy conditions during a lengthy road trip prevented Pitt from being able to make it from Colorado to California. The Panthers played 12 consecutive games away from home, including contests against Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue, Butler, Kansas (3), Colorado, Stanford (2), and USC (2) from Dec. 15, 1931 to Jan. 2, 1932.
Pitt also made the trip West to play at Cal during the 1948-49 and 1950-51 seasons.
The Pitt-Cal contest is one of three opportunities during the holiday break when fans can secure their seats in the Oakland Zoo Student Section - Sam Houston (Dec. 21), Cal (Jan. 1), or Stanford (Jan. 4). Tickets start as low as $10 and fans can upgrade their package for just $15 more to include an official Oakland Zoo Student Section t-shirt with each purchase! You In the Zoo packages are available HERE.
