From the Vault: Volleyball's First NCAA Win
Pitt vs Ohio State | 11/30/90
As Pitt Volleyball prepares for their 9th consecutive NCAA Tournament run learn more about the program's beginnings. Before the team was a perennial tournament fixture they secured their first tournament win with a 3-1 defeat of Ohio State in 1990.
The Panthers were helmed by 1990 Big East Coach of the Year Sue Woodstra, who had joined the program the year before. Woodstra began building on the past success of Pitt Volleyball, capturing the '89 Big East Tournament Championship in her first year but fell just short of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.

Pitt entered the '90 Big East Volleyball Tournament with only 5 losses on the year and a perfect 7-0 conference record. After dropping only 1 set on their way to the final Pitt beat Georgetown 3-2 to become Big East Tournament Champions in addition to their regular season title and looked forward to their next match in the NCAA first round.
The Panthers won in dramatic fashion, scoring 11 points after facing a 13-4 deficit up two to one in the fourth set, or game as known at the time.

Pitt Scored 7 of those points on serves from Freshman Ann Marie Lucanie.
After Ohio State failed to score on their serve the Panthers finished off the set with four points on serves by Senior Michele Adamson.

Junior Susan Zonneville had a team high 20 kills on the night, seen above during her senior season.

Jenelle Lantagne directed Pitt's offense with 52 of Pitt's 54 sets for the game.
