LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The No. 18 Pitt wrestling team battled through a long day of wrestling action and won two of three duals at the Rider Quad Meet, Friday afternoon at Alumni Gym. The Panthers (4-2) finished the day 2-1 with wins against No. 24 Maryland, 25-12, and Rider, 28-12, and suffered a narrow loss to No. 14 South Dakota State, 18-15.
Pitt started the day by winning six bouts against Maryland, including recording bonus point wins in four outings. The Terrapins kept the match close throughout the lower weight classes, but it was Pitt who held a 10-6 edge halfway through the opening match. The back-to-back technical fall wins from Keslar and Augustine provided the Panthers with a 20-6 lead with three bouts left in the match. Maryland came back and won two of the three final matches but Stout's technical fall over Chase Mielnik, 22-6, ultimately help secure the 25-12 victory.
South Dakota State came out strong in the second match of the day, winning the first three bouts over Pitt to take an early 9-0 lead. Freshman Kade Brown checked in for the Panthers at 149 and got the first dual win of his career with an 11-2 major decision victory over Avery Allen. The Jackrabbits looked to secure the win by taking the next three consecutive bouts for an 18-7 lead.
