PITTSBURGH – Freshman guard Brandin Cummings was named ACC Rookie of the Week following his 30-point performance in the Panthers 96-56 win over Eastern Kentucky on Dec. 11.
Cummings recorded the sixth 30+ point game by a Pitt freshman against Eastern Kentucky (12/11) with his 30-point effort setting a Pitt freshman record for points off the bench. He went 10-of-13 from the field, including 6-of-8 from three-point range, and 4-of-6 from the foul line against the Colonels. Cummings six three-pointers is tied for third most by a Pitt freshman. The 30-point effort off the bench is also tied for second-best in the Pitt record books (regardless of academic class).
Cummings has one of four 30+ point games by a freshman in the NCAA this season. He is averaging 7.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game, while going 28-of-55 (.509) from the field, including 14-of-42 (.412) from three-point range. Cummings has scored in double figures three times and ranks third on the team with 14 three-point field goals.
