Five Panthers Collect All-South Region Accolades

PITTSBURGH – Following a historic 2024 campaign, five Panthers garnered All-South Region honors, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Tuesday evening.

The 2024 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, junior defender Casper Svendby, was joined by senior striker Luis Sahmkow on the All-South Region First Team, while junior defender Jackson Gilman, senior midfielder Guilherme Feitosa and senior forward Casper Grening garnered second team accolades.

Pitt has now tallied 24 All-Region honorees in program history, including 20 under head coach Jay Vidovich.

All-South Region First Team

Casper Svendby
- Svendby was named the 2024 ACC Defensive Player of the Year after a standout junior campaign in which he helped anchor Pitt's back line to a .90 GAA – the best mark in program history. Offensively, Svendby logged three goals and four assists for 10 total points en route to garnering First Team All-ACC honors.
Luis Sahmkow
- Sahmkow had arguably the best season of his career, leading the Panthers in goals (9) and points (21), while collecting First Team All-ACC accolades. His nine goals this season rank sixth in the ACC and 45th nationally.

All-South Region Second Team

Jackson Gilman
- Gilman, along with Svendby, helped anchor a Pitt back line that allowed just 18 goals this season. The star center back appeared in 18 of 20 matches, logging 1522 minutes – good for fourth on the team. Of note, Gilman was also named Third Team All-ACC.
Guilherme Feitosa
- Feitosa earned First Team All-ACC accolades, recording three goals and nine assists for 15 points this season. His nine assists rank fourth in the ACC and 17th nationally. Additionally, the nine assists are the fifth most in a single season in program history.
Casper Grening
- Grening recorded six goals and four assists for 16 points during the 2024 campaign, ranking third on the team. A Second Team All-ACC honoree, Grening compiled over 1300 minutes on the pitch this season.
