PITTSBURGH – Pitt guard Damian Dunn underwent surgery to repair a right thumb injury Monday afternoon. Dunn suffered the injury, as well as a left ankle sprain, in the opening minutes of the Greenbrier Tip-Off title game against No. 19 Wisconsin Sunday evening and is expected to miss at least six weeks of action for the Panthers.
Dunn started the first seven games of the season and is averaging 11.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 49 percent from the field and a team-high 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from three-point range. He scored in double figures in the first five games of the season before playing just 13 minutes due to foul trouble against LSU and the injury versus Wisconsin in the past two games.
The Kinston, N.C., native has totaled 1,366 points, 388 rebounds, and 204 assists over 116 career games. He was a two-time All-AAC selection while at Temple and is looking to average in double-figures for the fourth time in his career.
The Panthers, 6-1 on the season and ranked No. 25 in the Coaches Poll, are in the middle of a five-game stretch against power conference teams away from the Petersen Events Center. Pitt travels to Columbus, Ohio to play Ohio State Friday, Nov. 29 (2:30 p.m. – Peacock) before matchups at Mississippi State (Dec. 4) and Virginia Tech (Dec. 7).
Pitt's next home contest is Wednesday, Dec. 11 against Eastern Kentucky.
