
From the Vault: Cal's Last Visit to Pittsburgh

Cal returns to Pittsburgh for the first time in over 60 years as the newly minted ACC members look to take on the Panthers at Acrisure Stadium. Learn more about the the Panthers' legendary '63 “No Bowl Team” and their win over California.

Pitt and Cal last faced off on October 5th, 1963, resulting in a 35-15 win for the Panthers. Pitt put up 446 yards of total offense, 225 on the ground and 196 through the air.

Under the leadership of John Michelosen the Panthers went on to win all but one of their remaining games of the season, only falling to Navy, helmed by Heisman winner Roger Stauchbach.


The 63' Panthers featured an array of standout players including All-America halfback Paul Martha, fullback Rick Leeson and quarterback Fred Mazurek…

… as well as standout tackles in John MAczuzak and All-American Ernie Borghetti.
