
Pitt Trio Earns ACC Football Player of the Week Honors

Eli Holstein named ACC's top Rookie for the fifth time in five games
PITTSBURGH—Three Pitt players—quarterback Eli Holstein, running back Desmond Reid and linebacker Kyle Louis—were honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference for their performances in the Panthers' 34-24 victory at North Carolina this past Saturday.
For the fifth time in as many games, Holstein was named ACC Rookie of the Week. The redshirt freshman compiled 457 total yards and accounted for four touchdowns against the Tar Heels.
- Holstein threw for a Pitt freshman-record 381 yards (25-of-42 passing) with three touchdowns and one interception in the UNC victory. He also was the Panthers' leading rusher with 76 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries (7.6 avg.).
- In leading the Panthers to a 5-0 record, Holstein became the first Pitt quarterback to win his initial five starts since Dan Marino in 1979.
- In addition to his ACC Rookie honor, Holstein also earned Davey O'Brien Award "Great 8" and Manning Award "Stars of the Week" accolades.
- On the season, Holstein has completed 66% of his passes (113 of 172) for 1,567 yards and 15 touchdowns with three interceptions. He is Pitt's second-leading rusher with 265 yards and three TDs on 48 carries (5.5 avg.).
- Holstein ranks third nationally in total offense (366.4 avg.), fourth in points responsible for (21.6 avg.), fifth in touchdown passes (15) and eighth in pass yards (313.4 avg.).
One of college football's top all-purpose players, Reid was named ACC Receiver of the Week for his exceptional production in the pass game at North Carolina.
- The junior posted game highs with 11 catches for 155 yards, including a two-yard TD reception. He rushed for 55 more, posting 210 all-purpose yards.
- This was Reid's second 100-yard receiving game of the season, the first time on record a Pitt running back accomplished that feat.
- With four games played (he missed the YSU game due to injury), Reid leads Pitt in rushing yards (374), all-purpose yards (774), receptions (24), receiving touchdowns (four) and total TDs (six).
- Reid ranks second nationally in all-purpose yards (ACC-best 193.5 per game).
- This is Reid's second ACC honor of the season. He previously was named Running Back of the Week for his performance against Cincinnati (Sept. 7).
Louis earned ACC Linebacker of the Week accolades after he spearheaded the Panthers' defense at North Carolina and closed the game out with a fourth-down quarterback sack.
- Louis collected nine tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a 12-yard sack.
- It was the second time this season that the sophomore made a play to end an opponent's final threat. In the Panthers' win over West Virginia (Sept. 14), Louis made a game-ending interception.
- On the season, Louis ranks second on the team in total tackles (42) and tackles for loss (6.5). He has a team-high two interceptions.
- This is the second ACC Linebacker of the Week honor for Louis. He previously was honored following the Sept. 14 West Virginia victory.
