PITTSBURGH – Linebackers Rasheem Biles, Kyle Louis and Braylan Lovelace were all named this week's PNC Achievers of the week.
The trio of Biles, Louis and Lovelace each recorded a pick-six during the first half of Pitt's 41-13 win over Syracuse last Thursday night as the Panthers improved to 7-0. It was the first time on record that Pitt had returned three interceptions for touchdowns in a game. The Pitt defense combined for five interceptions against Syracuse, their most in a game since also having five against UConn on Dec. 6, 2008. The linebacking core, known as "the sharks", combined for four of the five interceptions.
Rasheem Biles kicked off the pick-six party on Syracuse's fourth offensive snap of the game, returning an interception 35 yards for a score. For Biles, it was the first interception and touchdown of his career. The Sophomore from Columbus, OH finished with 12 tackles (tying a career high), one TFL and one sack.
Two drives later, Kyle Louis returned an interception 59 yards to the house to put Pitt up 17-0 just two minutes into the game. It was Louis' third interception of the year and third of his career, he finished with six tackles on the day.
Sophomore Braylan Lovelace capped off the first half with an interception return for a touchdown of his own, returning a pick 33 yards for a score. His pick-six was the first interception and second defensive touchdown of his career. Lovelace totaled two tackles, one TFL and one sack in the win.
No. 18 Pitt will travel to Dallas to face off against No. 20 SMU this Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 PM ET.
