PITTSBURGH—Pitt running back Desmond Reid continues to garner national recognition, this time as a member of The Sporting News 2024 Midseason All-America team, it was announced today.
This is one of many honors Reid has received as Pitt passed the halfway point of the regular season. He was named a candidate for the prestigious Maxwell Award, presented annually to the College Player of the Year, and secured a spot as a Midseason All-American by The Athletic.
Reid (Miami Gardens, Fla./Miramar) has been one of the driving forces behind Pitt's first 6-0 start in 42 years. Western Carolina transfer, he leads the team in rushing yards (494), all-purpose yards (913), receiving touchdowns (tied with four) and total touchdowns (eight). Additionally, Reid ranks second nationally in all-purpose yards (ACC-best 182.6 per game).
Reid has produced multiple firsts for the Panthers this season, including a tally of 100 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards in the same game (at Cincinnati) and catching 11 passes for 155 yards at North Carolina, the most by a running back in program history.
In Pitt's 17-15 win over Cal last week, he ran for both Pitt touchdowns—including a career-long 72-yard sprint—and netted 120 yards on 16 carries (7.5 avg.).
Following an open date this week, the Panthers resume action on Thursday, Oct. 24, when they host ACC foe Syracuse at 7:30 p.m. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN. For tickets, go to PittsburghPanthers.com or call (800) 643-7488.
