
Panthers Finish Strong at Joe Piane Invitational

SOUTH BEND, IN – The University of Pittsburgh cross country teams put together a strong showing at the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Friday morning. The women's team finished in sixth place, while the men's team notched an eleventh-place finish.
The Pitt women posted a team score of 198 points in the women's blue 5K race, as they notched a sixth-place finish in a field of 16 teams. Pitt finished just behind Florida State, UC Davis, Alabama, Notre Dame and the winning team from NC State.
Leading the way for the Panthers was senior Sadie Carey-Tharp, who finished in 18th place as she crossed the line in 16:56.1, while junior Winnie Incorvaia posted a 26th place finish in 17:08.9. Senior Emily Brown came in 35th place with a time of 17:22.2 and former ACC Freshman of the Week, Camy Kiser, followed in 51st place at 17:34.5.
On the men's side, the Panthers competed in the men's blue five-mile race and posted a team score of 267 points, as they were able to take home an 11th place finish out of 18 teams in competiton.
Out in front for Pitt for the second meet in a row was senior Luke Henseler, who came in 37th place with a time of 24:10.5. Jack Miller followed closely behind in 38th place at 24:11.4. Sam Otis, who competed in his first meet of the season, came in 56th place with a time of 24:30.5. Quintin Gatons crossed the line in 24:31.6, good for 59th place.
After the completion of the blue races, a few Panthers competed in the open races. On the women's side, Anna Cohen finished the women's open 5K race with a time of 18:24.3. Isabella Bufalini and Michaela Schiele followed Cohen with times of 18:51.6 and 18:56.2, respectively. Ethan Maher competed in the men's open five-mile race, posting a time of 25:56.4.
The Panthers will be away from competition until October 14th, when they head to Charlottesville, Va. for Pre-Nationals hosted by the University of Virginia at Panorama Farms.
